For people who live in Portugal
To apply for Portuguese nationality or permanent residence you need to prove A2 Portuguese. OneGrade takes you from zero to A2 in European Portuguese, with explanations in English, and prepares you for CIPLE, the A2 exam whose certificate is one of the accepted proofs.
The proofs of Portuguese for nationality and permanent residence work at level A2. The course is built to take you from zero to A2 in European Portuguese.
A CAPLE certificate, such as the CIPLE, is one of the proofs of Portuguese listed in the Nationality Regulation. Every module ends with CIPLE-format writing and speaking practice checked by a teacher.
Live lessons with a native teacher in Premium (group of max 5) or Exclusive (one-to-one), so you can speak at the doctor's, at AIMA or with your landlord, not just pass a test.
Take the free level test (12 questions, about 3 minutes) and see which plan fits where you are today.
Prices include IVA. Every plan includes the full Basic course. Compare all plans.

For naturalisation you must show, by a test or a certificate, that you know Portuguese. The accepted proofs are listed in article 25 of the Nationality Regulation: the official test for nationality (PaN), a CAPLE certificate, an A2 or higher certificate from a public school or an IEFP centre, a PLA course certificate at A2 or higher, or a school certificate. Our guide to the Portuguese citizenship language test explains each one and what changed in 2026, and what we know about the citizenship culture test covers the new culture component.
For permanent residence, AIMA accepts A2 proof as well; see our guide to A2 Portuguese for permanent residence. If you are weighing a free state course, read how to get into a free PLA course.
If you choose the CIPLE route, OneGrade takes you from zero to A2 and prepares you for the CIPLE exam. You study on the platform at your own pace, practise exam-style writing and speaking with teacher feedback, and, in Premium or Exclusive, practise speaking in live lessons with a native teacher. When you are ready, you register for the exam yourself and pay the fee to CAPLE.
Please note: OneGrade is a language course. It does not give you citizenship or residence and can't guarantee that you pass the CIPLE or any other exam. Our certificate of completion is not an official certificate and is not a proof of Portuguese for applications: the official A2 proof is, for example, the CIPLE certificate you get by passing the exam. The 2026 Nationality Law also added Portuguese culture, history and national symbols, which this course does not cover. Rules change, so check the official sources (Diário da República, AIMA, IRN) before you apply.
No course can do that. Citizenship and residence are decided by the official services under the law. The course helps you reach A2 and prepare for the CIPLE exam, whose certificate is one of the accepted proofs of Portuguese.
No. Our certificate of completion only shows that you finished the course. It is not an official language certificate. Use an accepted proof, such as a CAPLE certificate (for example the CIPLE).
A2 of the CEFR. The official test for nationality certifies Portuguese with reference to A2, and certificates of level A2 or higher are accepted as proof.
No. It is a language course. The 2026 Nationality Law added culture, history and national symbols, and official details on how that part is proved are still pending.
